How To Disassemble The Window Air Conditioner? Precautions For Installation And Disassembly And Cleaning Methods Of Old Window Air Conditioners
Window air conditioners are indeed rare now, and many young friends may not have heard of them.
If you have an old window machine like this, you want to dismantle it and clean it yourself in the summer. When you see the single iron lump, it is really hard to know where to start.
It costs less than a hundred yuan to ask a master to come to your home, but it is actually not difficult to do it yourself.

Today, I will use the old machine at home as an example to explain the disassembly and cleaning steps of the window air conditioner in detail, breaking it apart and crushing it into pieces. By the way, I will talk about the details that are easily overlooked during the installation.
Before disassembling, take a look at the shell structure
Don't rush to tighten the screws in the first step. Look at both sides of the machine first.
The casing of the old-fashioned window air conditioners that we see every day usually looks like a complete tin box. In this tin box, there will be recessed handles or plastic covers on both sides near the bottom.
Lift the machine down from the window, place it in a spacious area, and use a Phillips screwdriver to remove several long screws holding the middle frame.
For some models, you need to remove the front panel first. The panel is usually fixed with buckles. You can open it by gently pulling it from the bottom toward the outside.
After opening, do not pull recklessly, but remember to unplug the connection cables of the remote control signal receiving board and temperature sensor. These cables are very short and can be easily torn off if you are not careful.
Drag the internal unit out like a drawer
After removing the housing fixing screws, the entire internal unit can slide out of the housing.
Use both hands to grasp the metal frames on both sides and pull them out smoothly. This is the same as opening a drawer.
After pulling it out, you can see the fan blades and the wind wheel at a glance. At this time, you can clearly see the dust accumulation.
If you hear abnormal noises when the machine is running, it is very likely that the fan blades have encountered rusty and then fallen off iron filings, or they have encountered hardened dust blocks.
Use a flashlight to shine inside the air duct to see if there are any foreign objects stuck inside.
Cleaning aluminum fins and impellers
Use first air conditioner waterproof cover Cover the motor part to prevent water from entering.
If there is a lot of dust on the aluminum fins, use a hard-bristled brush and brush gently along the direction of the fins. Do not brush horizontally, because the aluminum fins are very soft and prone to lodging.
Spray the air conditioner cleaning agent, wait for two or three minutes for the foam to break down the dirt, and then use a small spray bottle to rinse it clean.
Clean the wind wheel carefully. Mold can easily hide in the gaps between the fan blades. Spray the plastic case cleaner on it and use an old toothbrush to brush it bit by bit.
Drainage channels also need to be cleaned, and the silt must be pulled out with cotton swabs or thin wire, otherwise they will drip out during cooling in the summer.
Filter removal and cleaning

The filter is usually behind the front panel and can be seen by removing the front panel.
First of all, please note that before taking it apart, it is best to power on the machine and try to see if the machine can operate normally. After the test is completed, unplug the power supply.
Follow the directions in the instruction manual to remove the dust filter. Do not touch the metal evaporator fins inside as their edges are extremely sharp.
When the filter is faced with only floating dust, you can use a vacuum cleaner to suck it once, or you can take it under the faucet and rinse it with a soft brush.
If the oil stain is heavy, pour some dish soap on it, soak it for ten minutes, then rinse it clean, and then place it in a cool place to dry naturally. Do not expose it to the sun, because the plastic of the filter will become brittle and deformed.
Several points to note when installing window air conditioners
The order of putting it back together is exactly the opposite to that of taking it apart.
Install the filter first, then push the internal unit into the housing and tighten the screws.
When installing toward the window, keep this tip in mind. The indoor side should be about 3 centimeters higher than the outdoor side.
The situation is like this. The window machine uses the tilt angle to cause the condensed water to flow outdoors. If it is installed in a horizontal state, or the indoor height is lower than the outdoor height, then the water will flow into the house in the opposite direction. That's it.
If the wall hole is relatively thick, the outside should be cut into 45 degree bell mouth , ensure smooth ventilation.
Leave at least 1 meter of space behind the machine, which cannot be blocked by brick walls or other obstacles.
The best position is far away from the door. The vibration caused by opening and closing the door will affect the life of the compressor.
Safety and routine maintenance
The power supply should be connected to a dedicated socket alone, and do not share a power strip with other high-power electrical appliances.
The waterproof performance of the window unit itself is mediocre. On one side of the outdoor area, it is best to install an additional sun visor. It can not only block rainwater, but also prevent direct sunlight, thus avoiding increased heat load.
The installation height of the device is precisely limited to a range of 1.5 to 2 meters. Under this specific height condition, subsequent operations such as removing the filter and wiping the casing will be very convenient.
Washing the filter and impeller before starting the machine every summer will make the cooling effect much better.
If you notice that the fan itself is making a metal friction sound, or the buzzing sound is extremely loud, then don’t waste your efforts. The motor is not easy to disassemble. Forcibly disassembly can easily damage the condenser and evaporator copper tubes. It is really not worth the gain.

Disassembling an old window air conditioner and cleaning it yourself is actually not as complicated and difficult as people think. The most important thing is to be careful enough, properly place the screws according to categories, and take a few photos to record the punctuation of the wiring before disassembly.
Clean the filter so that the aluminum fins are cleaned and the wind wheel is cleaned. In this way, the wind blowing out in summer will no longer have that musty smell.
There is a tool that only requires a Phillips screwdriver, an old toothbrush, and a bottle of air conditioning cleaner to do something. If you can have a helper to help move the machine, it will be easier to do it.
