How To Easily Adjust The Hard Disk Partition Size In Win7 System Without Using Third-party Software
Many friends recently purchased computers with the Win7 system pre-installed. However, after checking, there was only one C drive in the hard drive, and none of the other drive letters existed.
This situation is particularly common on brand-name machines, and the same is true for notebooks. Hundreds of GB of hard drive storage space, or even 1TB of hard drive space, are all allocated to the C drive.
Normally, if you save some document photos, it would be easier to deal with. However, you never thought that as time goes by, those downloaded movies, installed games and work-related files are all piled up on the desktop and in the "My Documents" folder, so that the C drive will explode from time to time, which is really a headache.

The more I use my computer, the more it becomes stuck. I want to organize my files, but I am afraid of deleting the wrong things.
When thinking about re-dividing an area, the first reaction of many people is to look for third-party partitioning software, such as PQ. Downloading and installing it is not an ordinary trouble. Not to mention this, if there is a mistake in the operation steps and the entire system crashes, it will be even more troublesome.
In fact, many people don't know that Win7 system itself has a very easy-to-use disk management tool. There is no need to install any additional software, and there is no need to remember complicated commands. It can be completed with a few clicks of the mouse in the graphical interface.
Follow the steps below and we will tell you a particularly practical method, step by step, to teach you how to non-destructively adjust the partition size of your hard drive.

Open the disk management that comes with Win7
The first step of the operation is not difficult.
Press the location of the computer in the start menu. This location needs to be found after clicking the "Start" button in the lower left corner of the screen. Once found, click with the right mouse button.

In the pop-up menu, select " manage "This one.
If the account currently logged in is a standard account, the system will pop up a window that requires you to enter the password of the administrator account. This is a normal permission verification. Enter the administrator password, or click Confirm to complete the required operation.
In the pop-up window called "Computer Management", there is a navigation bar on the left. Find the item "Storage" from it, click to open the small triangle in front to expand it, and then click "Disk Management" below.
At this time, the main area on the right will load the interface of the disk management tool. The upper row shows your C drive and D drive (if they exist), and the lower row displays the hard disk partition status graphically.

Create a new disk partition from the C drive
If there is only one C drive in your computer, you will find that in the disk management tool, in addition to the C drive, there is also a small partition reserved for the system, and the rest is a large C drive space.
At this time we need to "squeeze" some space from the C drive to create the D drive.
Select the box on drive C, right-click and select " compressed volume ".

The system will pop up a window and then start to query the available compression space. Depending on your computer configuration and the remaining space on the C drive, this process may take dozens of seconds or a minute or two.
After the query is completed, the Compression dialog box appears.
It will indicate the total size of the C drive and the amount of available compressed space.

In the "Enter the amount of compressed space", the maximum available space is filled by default. However, it is generally not recommended to compress the C drive too small. For Win7 system and subsequent installed software, it is safer to reserve 100GB to 120GB for the C drive.
For example, the total size of drive D is 500GB, and you plan to allocate 200GB to drive D. In this case, fill in "204800" in the input box. Also note that the unit is MB.

After filling it out, click the button called "Compress" and wait for a while. At that time, you will see that there is an extra black area called "Unallocated" behind the C drive.
Create new partition and format it

The next step is to convert this space marked as "unallocated" into a new partition that can be used to store files.
Right-click the black unallocated area and select " Create a new simple volume ".
A New Simple Volume Wizard will pop up, click "Next".
When specifying the volume size, the default is the size of all unallocated space. Generally speaking, there is no need to modify it, just click "Next".
Next is to specify the drive letter, which is the drive letter. The system will assign the D drive by default. You can change it to the E drive or other letters, just choose according to your own habits, and then click "Next".

Formatting the partition is a very important step. Only after formatting can the disk be used normally.
For the file system, select the "NTFS" option and keep the allocation unit size at the default "4096". The volume label can be given a name, such as "Software" or "Documents", or of course it can be left blank.
Be sure to check the "Perform a quick format" item below, and then click "Next".
Finally, confirm the settings and click "Finish".
The system will format itself, and the newly partitioned D drive will appear in "Computer".
Adjust the capacity of C drive to prevent it from becoming full

Some friends have left the C drive too small, or installed too many software, and the C drive often becomes red.
At this time, you can also use the reverse operation of the compressed volume to expand the C drive.
However, please note that you can only remove the D drive, or the partition immediately to the right of the C drive, and merge its space to the C drive.

Before operation, be sure to back up important files in the D drive to a mobile hard drive or USB flash drive.
After making the backup, in Disk Management, right-click the D drive and select the "Delete Volume" option. In this way, the D drive will be converted into an unallocated area.
Then, right-click the C drive, select "Extend Volume", and then follow the wizard steps to add the unallocated space to complete the operation.

This method does not require reinstalling the system or third-party tools, which is very convenient.
Using the disk management tool that comes with Win7 to adjust partitions is the safest and most trouble-free method.
There is no need to search for partition software from unknown sources on the Internet, and there is no need to worry about errors during operation that may lead to data loss.
Unless you do not follow the above steps, whether it is dividing the D drive and E drive for the new computer, or increasing the capacity of the C drive, it can be easily completed.
When you perform the operation, you should pay attention to backing up important files and understand the options presented in each step, then there will be no problems.
